Nuala McHugh - Textiles Designer

Nuala McHught

Textile designer Nuala McHugh was recently awarded a bursary through the Leonardo da Vinci training placement to work with leading textile designers Harriet Wallace Jones and Emma Sewell in their studio in London. For Nuala this has been an amazing experience as she “has learnt a huge amount, some of which I would never have got the opportunity to learn through formal education.”

Nuala is taking what she is learning and applying it to her own work. She is constantly adding to her collection and recently took part in an exhibition organised by the Design Shop, Dublin. Some elements of her degree work can be seen in the RDS National Craft Competition Prize Winning Travelling Exhibition. Nuala is an award winning designer herself coming first in the Weaving: Fashion or Furnishing section of the RDS competition and she also received the Lillias Mitchell Award.

Nuala is very excited about her future projects. Her main aim is to have her own studio and to divide her time between designing and making for industry and one-off art pieces.

Nuala is a Textile Design graduate of NCAD. She focuses mainly on weaving, producing silk scarves, cushions and wall hangings. According to Nuala, “she likes to make beautiful things for people to wear and to have in their homes”.
