Emer Duffy designer-maker

RiseCreatives talks to Emer Duffy, designer-maker, about her work and plans for the future.
Emer graduated last year from the National College of Art and Design (NCAD), Dublin where she completed a Bachelor of Design. Since graduating she has been working on expanding her collection to include not only brooches but rings, earrings and bracelets made from precious metals such as gold and steel wire. Emer recently won an award for product design from the Institute of Designers in Ireland and as part of her prize her work was exhibited in the Wandesford Gallery, Cork for Design Week. She also has a large sculptural piece in the Designyard in Dublin.
Emer is one of three graduates selected for the graduate innovation programme developed by NCAD and the Rediscovery Centre in Ballymun. Emer together with the other graduates will be based at a new studio in Ballymun where they will develop their craft as well as taking part in a recycled materials project for the Rediscovery Centre. They will also run workshops in metal and jewellery making.
From an early age Emer was interested in art and design encouraged by her art teacher. She worked with a range of materials such as ceramics but eventually fell in love with metals while studying at college. She own plans to develop her jewellery collection working with a combination of precious metals. She also hopes to take part in a number of competitions and exhibitions in the future.
